Junior Hurlers Progress To Championship Semi Final   05/08/2015

Kilshannig 2-16 Ballyhooly 2-15

Kilshannig advanced to the North Cork Junior A Hurling Championship semi final following a thrilling quarter final victory over Ballyhooly at Kildorrery on Saturday evening last. Substitute Eoin O'Sullivan was the hero, hitting the winner in the final seconds of injury time to ensure Kilshannig's place in the penultimate stage of the competition for the first time in 30 years. It was a close encounter all through but it was Kilshannig who held the edge in the opening half with Cian Nagle's 8th minute goal helping his side into a 1-1 to no score lead. Ballyhooly despite striking a number of the wides, had the next three points to narrow the deficit to one by the end of the opening quarter. A superb run from Killian O'Hanlon almost led to a second goal but Colin Twomey fired over while at the other end Ballyhooly began to find their range entering the closing stages of the half to bring the sides level for the first time. However, two excellent points from O'Hanlon late on ensured Kilshannig held the advantage at the break,1-6 to 0-7.

While Kilshannig extended their lead to four after the break, Ballyhooly began to gain momentum, narrowing the deficit before a goal in the 40th minute moved them in front, 1-10 to 1-09. Kilshannig responded well though, denying Ballyhooly a second goal and shortly after they struck their second goal, the excellent O'Hanlon splitting the Ballyhooly defence with a driving run before superbly finishing to the net. Further scores from O'Hanlon and Diarmuid O'Sullivan pushed Kilshannig ahead by four entering the final 10 minutes, 2-13 to 1-12. While Ballyhooly drew level thanks to their second goal, Kilshannig restored their advantage with O'Sullivan and substitute Kevin O'Flynn on target to lead by two with 5 minutes remaining. However, Ballyhooly refused to give in and two points in quick succession brought the sides level into injury time and extra time looked on the cards. There was one last twist though as Eoin O'Sullivan had the final say pointing the winner from a tight angle to send Kilshannig into a last four clash with Clyda Rovers or Ballyclough.
