Division 1 Football League
Kilshannig 1-13 Fermoy 1-06
Kilshannig's
junior footballers got their Division 1 Football League campaign off to
a fine start with a battling victory over Fermoy in Fermoy on Sunday
last. While the final scoreline may suggest a comfortable win, it was
far from the case as the home side caused Kilshannig plenty of problems
throughout. In difficult conditions, Fermoy held the advantage at the
break, 1-4 to 0-6 but Kilshannig took over completely in the second half
as they upped their game considerably after the resumption. While they
applied the pressure in the opening stages of the half they struck the
majority of their 14 wides during this period as they passed up several
opportunities to equalise. However, once Richie Ryan drew the sides
level, Kilshannig pushed on with a Tadhg O'Sullivan point and a superb
Killian O'Hanlon goal giving them some breathing space. It was all one
way traffic at this with O'Sullivan adding to this tally while
substitutes Denis Clogan and Michael Twomey pointed late on. Kilshannig
had some well taken scores in the opening half with O'Hanlon, Tony Kelly
and the impressive Alan O'Connell all on target but it was Fermoy who
had the slight edge at the break, largely thanks to a 15th minute goal.
However, once Kilshannig got into their stride with Rory McSherry, Frank
McCarthy and O'Hanlon shining there was only going to be one winner
with O'Hanlon's goal proving critical as his side secured two valuable
league points.

Division 2 Football League
Kilworth 0-11 Kilshannig 0-09
A
gallant Kilshannig narrowly came up short in their Division 2 League
clash away to Kilworth on Saturday evening. Despite their best efforts,
Kilshannig were unable to break down a strong home side who just about
deserved their victory. Kilworth were full value for their half time
lead, ahead 0-6 to 0-4 as they dominated for long stages of the half.
Kilshannig remained in contention though with Colin Twomey and Brian
Guerin defending well. Pa Cronin was particularly impressive in front of
the posts with two excellent points while Ian O'Donoghue and full
forward John Quinn also pointed. Cronin was once again on target with a
fine point from long distance and another from Quinn brought the sides
level, 0-7 each. In a tight encounter, it was the home side who pushed
on in the final quarter though as they raced in front once more.
Kilshannig battled to the end but were unable to find the adequate
scores to narrow the gap as Kilworth held on for victory.
Scorers for Kilshannig: P Cronin 0-3, J Quinn, I O'Donoghue 0-2, M Twomey, D Clogan 0-1 each.

Two
defeats were our lot this weekend but still our lads played with great
commitment. Our U16s had a few chances near the end to rescue a draw but
it was not to be. The U14 boys were well in the game for 45 minutes but
Mallow were deserving winners.
