U21 Hurling Championship

Kilshannig 3-12 Harbour Rovers 2-13

Two goals in the final minutes helped Kilshannig to a narrow victory over Harbour Rovers in their U21 B Hurling Championship second round tie at Killavullen. While Kilshannig were in front by three at the break mainly thanks to an early Cian Nagle goal, it looked like the Glanworth side would be progressing to the quarter final stages as they turned the game on its head to lead by three points entering the final quarter, 1-12 to 1-09. They maintained a two point lead with two minutes left but Kilshannig struck a major blow when Kevin O'Flynn's effort from long range dropped into the Harbour Rovers net. O'Flynn added an excellent free before Nagle got the insurance score in injury time with his second and Kilshannig's third goal. Harbour Rovers pulled a goal back but the final whistle followed shortly after as Kilshannig secured a quarter final clash with Kildorrery. Nagle's goal in the opening minute after an excellent run from Dylan O'Callaghan proved to be difference between the sides in the first period. Both sides were on target with O'Flynn and Diarmuid O'Sullivan efficient in front of the posts to give Kilshannig a 1-7 to 0-7 half time lead. Rovers quickly turned the tie however to draw level with a 40th minute goal before taking the lead with a succession of points. It looked like it was going to be their night until Kilshannig's late burst ensured their progression to the next stage.

Kilshannig 1-21 Buttevant 0-14

Kilshannig secured their place in the semi finals of the Rebel Og North Minor B Hurling Championship thanks to a fully deserving quarter final victory over Buttevant in Ballyclough on Monday evening. While Kilshannig had a comfortable win over Newmarket in the previous round, this was a much tougher task with the ten point winning margin not reflecting the game as a whole. There was little between the sides for large periods before Kilshannig pulled away in the closing stages. Buttevant had the opening score of the game but it was Kilshannig who surged ahead with Kevin O'Flynn, Kieran Twomey, Jack Kearney and Diarmuid O'Sullivan firing some superb scores in the opening ten minutes to open up a 0-7 to 0-2 lead. Buttevant replied well however with the next five points to level the scores but Kilshannig quickly retook the lead, Jack Twomey expertly batting to the Buttevant net for the only goal of the contest. Buttevant narrowed the gap once more but O'Flynn ensured Kilshannig remained in front at the break, 1-8 to 0-10. Buttevant though got off to an excellent start to the second period hitting three of the next four points to move into the ascendancy. Kilshannig however didn't let up and with Joseph Cronin, Brian Guerin and Cillian Murphy in outstanding form they responded in emphatic fashion. Kearney, O'Flynn and Murphy were all on target as seven points on the trot moved Kilshannig 1-16 to 0-13 ahead entering the final 10 minutes. With the defence on top at this stage, Kilshannig controlled the closing minutes as Diarmuid O'Sullivan and Alan Wallace added late scores to book a semi final meeting with Millstreet.
