Kilshannig secured their place in the Avondhu Division 1 Football League Final following a narrow semi final victory over Killavullen at a wet Castletownroche on Saturday evening. The wet and windy conditions made it difficult for both sides and this was reflected on the scoreboard in a low scoring contest. The game's most defining period came in the opening ten minutes of the second period with the move of Killian O'Hanlon to full forward proving crucial as Kilshannig kicked four unanswered points to overturn a two point half time deficit. Prior to this, Killavullen had dictated proceedings for large parts of the first half and thanks to some fine scores held a 0-4 to 0-2 interval lead. Kilshannig, despite playing with the advantage of the wind, struggled to get a rhythm going and were reduced to just two pointed frees from Tadhg O'Sullivan. However, with O'Hanlon now a focal point of the attack and Darragh Mahoney, Brian Guerin and substitute Cillian Murphy all beginning to exert their influence on the game, Kilshannig responded superbly after the restart. Points from Dylan O'Callaghan and Darren O'Riordan wiped out Killavullen's lead before Kilshannig moved two in front with 20 minutes remaining, 0-6 to 0-4. Scores were at a premium at this stage and while Killavullen replied with a point of their own, O'Riordan who was now a key figure in attack kicked two superb sides to move Kilshannig ahead by three, 0-8 to 0-5. That proved to be Kilshannig's last score as they defended their lead in the final minutes and while Killavullen tried hard for a late goal, all they could muster was another point as Kilshannig held on to book a final meeting with Mallow or Ballyclough.
