Kilshannig Fall Short in Junior B Championship   20/06/2015

Mitchelstown 0-13 Kilshannig 0-10 (AET)

Kilshannig were forced to give up their Junior B Football Championship title following an extra time defeat to Mitchelstown at Castletownroche on Friday night. Kilshannig overcame the same opposition at the semi final stages on their way to winning the competition last year but on this occasion Mitchelstown gained some revenge to advance to a final meeting with Kildorrery or Ballyclough. It was a hugely disappointing defeat for Kilshannig having led for long periods before eventually succumbing to the town side who proved too strong in extra time. Both sides set up defensively in the opening half and this was reflected on the scoreboard, Kilshannig edging ahead 0-3 to 0-2 by the interval. Kilshannig extended their lead to four, 0-6 to 0-2 by the 40th minute and while Mitchelstown responded well, Kilshannig looked on course to secure a final birth, holding a 0-8 to 0-5 lead with under ten minutes remaining. Mitchelstown though finished strongly and three unanswered points tied the sides to send the game to extra time, 0-8 each. Mitchelstown had all the momentum at this stage and four points in a row moved them into the lead for the first time in the game. Kilshannig managed to narrow the gap to three at the break, 0-12 to 0-9, but despite the best efforts of David Cronin, Alan O'Regan, Colin Twomey and Jack Kearney they were unable to reel in their opponents as Mitchelstown closed out the game to advance to the final.
