Division 2 Hurling League

Kilshannig 3-17 Newtownshandrum 2-09

Kilshannig claimed their first win of the Division 2 Hurling League away to Newtownshandrum on Sunday last. Following a draw last week against Kilworth, Kilshannig were eager to get their opening win of the campaign and they duly obliged with an 11 point victory. It wasn't as easy as the final scoreline suggests though with Kilshannig leading by just the minimum at the break, 1-9 to 2-5. They managed to get off to an excellent start and led by 5 at one stage with Killian O'Hanlon, Denis Clogan and Kevin O'Flynn pointing. Newtown though netted two goals in quick succession to hit the front but it was Kilshannig who moved ahead just before the interval, Killian O'Hanlon setting up Clogan for a while taken goal. With the breeze aiding Kilshannig in the second period they began to dominate further with O'Hanlon, O'Flynn and David Cronin in fine form. O'Hanlon added two goals to push his side six ahead and while Newtown did their utmost to reply, it was Kilshannig who finished comfortable winners with Damien Murphy and Liam Casey adding late scores.

Scorers for Kilshannig: K O'Hanlon 2-10 (0-6 frees), D Clogan 1-2, K O'Flynn 0-3, D Murphy, L Casey 0-1 each.

Medal Presentation
On Sunday last, our U14 and U15 hurlers travelled to Pairc Ui Rinn for the Cork /Tipp National league game. Afterwards, at Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork hurler, Shane O'Neill presented the two teams with their North Cork Championship medals won last year. A very enjoyable evening was had by all present in spite of the result. Shane O'Neill was most obliging with his time and had great words of encouragement for the lads. Well done to our lads on last seasons achievements and hopefully 2015 will again prove successful in both codes.
