Division 1 Football League

Kilshannig 4-06 Charleville 1-06

Kilshannig continued their good form in the Division 1 Football League with their third win in a row with a comfortable victory away to Charleville on Friday evening. Kilshannig were always on top right from the start and looked well in control at the break, leading 3-3 to 0-2. Phelim O'Connell (2) and Tadhg O'Sullivan supplied the early goals while Killian O'Hanlon and Pa Cronin were forced to settle for points when they may have added to their goal tally. The wet conditions made life difficult for both sides especially in the second half and it was of little surprise that scores were hard to come by. O'Connell completed his hat trick midway through the half while Charleville managed to find the net themselves. However, at this stage, both sides made a number of changes and the game petered out as Kilshannig were easy winners in the end.

Scorers for Kilshannig: P O'Connell 3-0, K O'Hanlon 0-3 (0-1 free), T O'Sullivan 1-0, R Ryan, P Cronin, A O'Connell 0-1 each.

Glanworth 1-14 Kilshannig 2-07

Kilshannig suffered their second consecutive loss in the Division 2 Football League with a four point defeat to Glanworth in Glantane on Saturday afternoon. Kilshannig looked in a good position at half time leading 2-6 to 0-4 with Phelim O'Connell and Alan O'Connell supplying the goals. Results
U14 Premier 2 Football League Thomas Russell's 6-04 Glenville 2-08
U16 Premier 2 Football League Thomas Russell's 2-08 Inniscarra 2-04

First in to action were our U16s. There was never going to be much between these two teams if past encounters were anything to go by. Inniscarra had the better start, racing into a four point lead but gradually our lads settled to the task in hand and two goals before half time saw us leading 2-02 to 1-02.
With a slight wind advantage, Thomas Russell's worked hard ,forcing Inniscarra to concede frees which were punished and a few nice points from play saw us leading 2-08 to 1-03. However, our lads failed to really nail their advantage and a goal for Inniscarra set up a hectic finish. Our backs stood firm in face of continuous pressure, conceding just one point and denying the opposition an all important goal.
Well done to both teams on a very entertaining game.
Team: K Twomey; L O'Riordan, J Murphy, C O'Sullivan; C O'Shea, C McMahon, C Barrow; J Twomey. K McMahon; E O'Hanlon, T Brennan, L Twomey; D Taylor , D O'Sullivan, B Griffin.
Subs: D Kearney, B Curtin.

Our U14 team travelled to Glenville seeking their first points of the season, and came away with a well deserved victory. Two early goals  from Michael Cogan set us on our way. At half time we were ahead by five points but Glenville had the lead down to two points very quickly and indeed squandered a few good scoring chances. Thankfully , we got back on track  with great work throughout the field. Barry O'Shea, Hughie Bolster, Eoin Healy and Shane Murphy covered a lot of ground and three further goals, the last one a sweet finish from TJ Willis sealed the win.
