Division 1 Football League
Kilshannig 1-08 Ballyclough 0-09

Kilshannig made it two wins from two following their narrow victory over Ballyclough in their Division 1 Football
League clash at Glantane on Saturday last. In what was a repeat of last year’s North Cork final it was always going to be a tight encounter and that was how it turned out as very little separated the sides. In the end, a 20th Killian O’Hanlon goal proved to be the game’s most important score. After a flowing move, Frank McCarthy was taken down in the square with O’Hanlon dispatching the resulting penalty to the net. Up to then the sides traded scores with Teddy O’Shea and Thomas O’Neill for Ballyclough and Tadhg O’Sullivan and McCarthy all hitting the target. O’Hanlon added a further point before the break to leave his side three in front, 1-4 to 0-4. Kilshannig continued where they left off in the second half as they began to dominate with Brain Guerin and Liam Casey in their half back line particularly impressive. They moved five ahead with two points in quick succession but should have extended their advantage even more so only for a number of poor wides. This kept Ballyclough alive and they duly capitalized when the opportunity arose, three unanswered points from Damien Buckley (2) and Mark Heffernan brought the deficit back to one, 1-6 to 0-8. However, Kilshannig steadied themselves once more, Tadhg O’Sullivan breaking Ballyclough’s momentum before McCarthy added another point late on to secure a deserved victory.

Scorers for Kilshannig: K O’Hanlon 1-3 (1-0 pen, 0-2 frees), T O’Sullivan 0-3 (0-1 free), F McCarthy 0-2.

Thomas Russell's Juvenile Results
Last weekend was a fruitful one for our club with both our U13 and U15 teams collecting points in the league. First in action were our U13s who travelled to Fermoy to play the local side. The result of this game was evident from an early stage, with our lads dominating throughout, kicking some lovely points to run out easy winners on a score line of 7-17 to 4-05.

The U15 game at Glantane against Passage was a completely different affair. Our boys held the lead in this game on two occasions, the first and last five minutes. Passage, with the help of three first half goals took a deserved lead, but we kept in touch by taking our points. With the clock running down, a great move ended with Dave Kearney cleverly flicking the ball to the net to put us ahead. Two further points saw us over the line on the score line 1-14 to 3-05.
