U15 Hurlers Win Northern Region Title   17/10/2014

U 15s Hurling Champs

Thomas Russells U 15 hurlers were crowned Rebel Og North A champions on Sunday last in Kilbrin following a well deserved victory over Cuchullainns (Kanturk ) . Played in glorious sunshine on a superb Kilbrin pitch, this was a game in which our boys were always in control. Our defence dealt very well with the opposition attacks with Denis Taylor in particular outstanding.  Dara O Sullivan , playing at wing back got the show on the road with a superb point, quickly followed with scores from Jerome Murphy and Kieran Twomey. Two well taken frees from Jack Lyons was followed by another long range point from Dara. A long delivery from Tony Brennan was finished to the net by the in rushing Jack Lyons following great work by the hard working Conor McMahon.

Jack Twomey ,at centre back was always in control, and  assisted by Colm O Shea and Dara , our half backs coped well with the physical Kanturk attack, clearing some great ball, one of which resulted in Kieran  blasting  to the net  past the helpless Kanturk keeper.

Another splendid free from Jack Lyons was followed by Kanturks first score of the game, a  goal after a period of intense pressure. Cathal O Sullivan and  Aoran Mc were  kept busy in the full back line with keeper Dave Kearney coming off his line to intercept on numerous occasions, keeping  us in a comfortable half time lead.

Kanturk had the first score of the second half, but any chance of a revival were quickly dispelled with points  from Jack Twomey, Brennan, and Lyons .Two scores to the opposition were cancelled out by two from the inform Lyons. Kanturk to their credit continued to press  and their efforts were  rewarded with  a goal,  following a goalmouth melee .

However, with Tony Brennan and Jerome Murphy dictating affairs around midfield and Conor McMahon a constant threat at centre forward, the result was never in doubt with further scores coming from Eanna O Hanlon and Kieran Twomey. James O Hanlon and sub Bill Curtin were unlucky not to add to our tally , with the last score of the game being a Kanturk goal. Following the game ,our captain Dara o Sullivan was presented with the cup on behalf of Rebel Og by Denis O Hanlon.

Well done to all the players and management of Joe Lyons, Dan Guinee , Dave Shea, John Cleary and Pat Murphy.
