U21 Footballers Win North Cork Title   15/04/2014

Kilshannig 3-10 Buttevant 1-10

Kilshannig captured their first North Cork U21 B Football Championship title since 2002 when they secured a deserved final victory over favourites Buttevant in Mallow on Saturday evening last. Kilshannig showed their intent right from the beginning as they got off to a blistering start that ultimately was the key to their victory. The deadly Tadhg O'Sullivan and Eoin O'Sullivan were to the forefront of this as they caused endless problems for the Buttevant defence throughout. Man of the match Eoin O'Sullivan was in superb form and his seventh minute goal moved Kilshannig into a deserved four point lead. Just three minutes later Denis Clogan fired home a second goal and with Dylan O'Callaghan and Tadhg O'Sullivan pointing a number of excellent points from play, Kilshannig moved 2-5 to 0-1 ahead by the 20th minute. While Kilshannig were dominating exchanges with Conor Casey, Andrew O'Callaghan and Joseph Cronin prominent, they were thankful to outstanding keeper David Cronin who made an excellent point blank save. Buttevant though did manage to find the net just before the break when Sean Madigan goaled from the penalty spot to reduced the deficit to six points, 2-5 to 1-2. With the use of the second half wind advantage, Buttevant looked to have the momentum after the interval but instead it was Kilshannig who pushed on. Tadhg O'Sullivan added to his tally before once again the pacy Eoin O'Sullivan tormented the Buttevant defence as he drilled his second goal to net in the 35th minute to leave Kilshannig 3-7 to 1-2 ahead. Credit to Buttevant though they responded well as they began to gain a foothold on the game as they kicked 8 of the next 9 points to bring themselves right back into contention. Just four points separated the sides at this stage but Kilshannig finished well with captain Killian O'Hanlon and substitute Barry Healy getting the insurance scores and with David Cronin and Conor Casey leading at the back there was no denying Kilshannig the title.

Scorers for Kilshannig: T O'Sullivan 0-6 (0-1 free), Eoin O'Sullivan 2-0, D Clogan 1-0, B Healy 0-2, D O'Callaghan, K O'Hanlon 0-1 each.

U21 B Football Champions

The club would like to congratulate our U21 Footballers on their magnificent achievement last Saturday evening defeating Buttevant to claim the U21 B Football Championship title. Kilshannig easily accounted for Kildorrery in their opening round with a 2-13 to 1-3 win. Kilshannig overcame Glanworth in the quarter final, 1-9 to 0-7 before facing Kildorrery once again in the semi final. Kildorrery regrouped well from their opening round loss and it was a much closer affair on this occasion. Kilshannig progressed to the final with a narrow 2-4 to 1-6 victory before defeating Buttevant to win the title for the first time in 12 years. Well done to all members of the panel and thanks to the management team of Ger Creedon, William O'Riordan, Richie Ryan and assistants Ger O'Donovan, Ben Creedon and Bill O'Riordan for their tremendous work with this team. Also, thanks to our members for the excellent support at the weekend and throughout the championship. Kilshannig will now represent the division in the county quarter final, where they will face the Carrigdhoun winners, Ballygarvan or Courcey Rovers on the weekend of the 17th/18th May.
