Anthony Brennan RIP   01/07/2017

Kilshannig GAA Club are deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of our Vice Chairman Anthony Brennan after a long illness. Anthony a great family man, has been a great friend to us all with his company, passion and humour felt by everyone in the community and he will be sadly missed by all. Anthony has contributed to the club in so many ways throughout the years both on and off the field. He was a member of Kilshannig football and hurling teams from a young age all the way up to adult teams which proved hugely successful on the playing fields. As an administrator he was hugely influential for Kilshannig GAA Club, Thomas Russell's Juvenile Club and Kilshannig Ladies Football Club undertaking various roles across all sections. As chairman of Kilshannig Ladies Football Club, Anthony revitalized the club with daughters Annemarie, Mairéad and Julie featuring on underage teams and in 2004 he helped the club create history by winning a county title. He also held various roles with Thomas Russell's Juvenile Club including Chairman and PRO. In 2010, Anthony was instrumental in setting up the club's relationship with Russell Gaelic Union, Downpatrick. He was a frequent visitor to Down with the clubs U12 teams with Downpatrick travelling south on many occasions and this couldn't be done without the influence of Anthony.

He also held the roles of Vice Chairman and PRO in recent times for Kilshannig GAA Club. In his spare time, he ensured our pitches were kept in splendid conditions, lining and cutting the fields while he was a member of various successful management teams at underage and adult level that won titles in both hurling and football. Anthony's highlight in recent years most definitely came in 2016 as he managed the minor A footballers to county championship honours with son Tony a prominent member of the team. Kilshannig also won a minor hurling county title in 2015 with both Anthony and Tony key members of the successful team. For many years, Anthony did a professional job as MC for numerous Kilshannig socials. He was a superb communicator and story teller while providing great craic and entertainment at the same time. Anthony's contribution and fantastic work for the club was hugely appreciated by all and he was honoured with the 2015 Clubman of the Year, a truly fabulous night for Anthony and his family. Anthony, a true gentlemen, you will be sadly missed by all in the club and community but always remembered. The club extend our deepest sympathies to Juliet, Annamarie, Mairéad, Julie and Tony, to Anthony's extended family and close circle of friends at this difficult time.
