Kilshannig's North Cork Junior A Hurling Championship hopes ended in disappointment following a quarter final defeat to Ballyhooly at Killavullen last Friday evening. It was a tie that Kilshannig were well in contention but a poor second half display proved costly after they failed to build on a three point half time lead. While the excellent Kevin O'Flynn opened the scoring, it was Ballyhooly who got off to a blistering start with seven unanswered points to surge 0-7 to 0-1 ahead by the 10th minute. However, Kilshannig came storming back with Liam Casey, Roddy O'Mahony and O'Flynn closing the deficit before O'Flynn, who caused havoc in the opposition defence, moved his side in front with a superb goal. The sides traded points before the break with Tadhg O'Sullivan and O'Flynn once more on target to give their side a 1-11 to 0-11 interval lead. While Kilshannig extended their advantage to four after the restart, they suffered a significant blow when Ballyhooly struck the net to cut the lead to one. They had all the momentum at this stage and quickly drew level before further points moved them two in front, 1-16 to 1-14. Kilshannig managed to keep in touch but Ballyhooly were in control in most sectors and dominating possession in defence and midfield. Their dominance in the second period eventually began to tell in the final ten minutes as they opened up a five point lead as the game entered injury time. Kilshannig fought hard and kept going to the end but they failed to find a much needed goal as all they could muster was a late point from Trevor O'Regan.
