Kilshannig ended a 32 year wait as they secured the Division 1 Football League title with a convincing victory over Charleville at Churchtown on Friday evening last. A commanding first half display provided Kilshannig with the perfect platform to claim the title for this first time since 1984. Kilshannig dominated right from the beginning with midfield duo Killian O'Hanlon and Cillian Murphy controlling the middle and they were well assisted by the hard working Frank McCarthy and Darragh Mahoney. They used the strong wind to their advantage with regular supply to the forward line ensuring early points for McCarthy, Mahoney and Tadhg O'Sullivan. Charleville struggled with the constant pressure and Kilshannig furthered their lead when Dylan O'Callaghan struck the first goal of the evening to move his side 1-5 to no score ahead. While Charleville offered a brief response with a couple of points from play, Kilshannig pushed on for the remainder of the half. Killian O'Hanlon added a second goal at the end of the opening quarter while he was on target with a couple of excellent long range frees. Kilshannig confirmed their supremacy just before the break when Darragh Mahoney set up Frank McCarthy who punched to the net to extend his side's lead at half time to 16 points, 3-9 to 0-2. 

Charleville finally found their rhythm after the restart and six unanswered points brought them back into contention to narrowe the deficit, 3-9 to 0-8. A goal was badly needed for them at this stage but they were unable to create any clear cut opportunities against a strong Kilshannig defence led by Roddy O'Mahony and Brian Guerin. While Kilshannig struggled against the breeze, they finally opened their second half account in the 52nd minute, man of the match O'Hanlon providing the vital score. That broke Charleville's momentum and put an end to their hopes of a comeback as Kilshannig eased to victory in the closing minutes with Cillian Murphy adding a fourth goal late on.
