Kilshannig and Mallow will have to do it all again after it ended all square in their Junior A Football Championship 1st Round opener at a wet Buttevant on Saturday evening. Mallow led for the majority of the contest but a Mossy O'Connell point two minutes from time ensured a deserved draw for Kilshannig after a spirited final quarter revival. Mallow set the tone from the off to race into a 0-3 to no score lead and while Kilshannig replied with Tadhg O'Sullivan and Roddy O'Mahony on target, it was Mallow who held the narrowest of leads at the break thanks to a goal shortly before half time, 1-3 to 0-5. The sides exchanged scores after the resumption but Mallow remained in control entering the final quarter holding a three point advantage, 1-7 to 0-7. However, Kilshannig finished the stronger with O'Sullivan and Killian O'Hanlon pointing in the closing stages before O'Connell tied the game with a superb point. Both sides had chances to claim victory near the end but there was no separating the sides at the full time whistle. The replay date has yet to be scheduled but will most likely take place this coming weekend.
